Tier 2 Assessment Scores and Placement
Enter assessment results, save the evidence, then confirm the student's program. Blank scores are not assessed. San Diego Quick is a word-identification screen, not a comprehension or Lexile measure.
| School movement rule | Evidence required |
|---|---|
| Fundations → PFR | 100% letter naming; use the PFR test to select the entry level. |
| Phonics A → B → C | At least 80% on the current level’s assessment evidence. |
| PFR → REWARDS | Level 3 Subtest H passing (at least 80%). |
| REWARDS → Test Prep | San Diego Quick above the student’s current enrolled grade. |
Letter naming
100% must refer to the full selected letter set. Record which form was used; blank is not zero.
Assessment scores and confirmed program assignments are saved separately.
Confirm or change program assignment
School rule: Grade 3 or above on the highest completed San Diego Quick list with fewer than 3 errors recommends REWARDS. Confirm the REWARDS version/group locally. A below-Grade-3 result calls for further placement evidence; it does not by itself select a Phonics level.
School progression labels A/B/C are shown with the supplied Phonics test’s Levels 1/2/3 respectively. Confirm the local materials before teaching. School advancement requires at least 80%; the older printed continuation counts remain visible as a reference.
Source scoring and administration
San Diego Quick: read lists in increasing difficulty; begin 2–3 lists below grade (Pre-Primer for K), score without help, accept a self-correction in about 5 seconds, move on after more than 8 seconds, and stop at 3 errors. The supplied scoring sheet names 1 error independent, 2 instructional, and 3 frustration; the app treats a completely correct list as independent-range too and reports unobserved levels as not established.
Phonics for Reading: use decodable word parts; stop a subtest after four consecutive errors and administer a lower subtest; move on after more than 5 seconds. Printed continuation counts are A 14/18, B 22/28, C/D/E 14/18, F 23/29, G/H 24/30. The school’s 80% rule is used (without rounding up); the older printed counts remain a reference. Placement is the lowest assessed subtest below the school cutoff, subject to complete administration and teacher review.

Decision Rules From the Workbook
P140K / D75 Alignment
| Priority | How RGR supports it | Look-for in classrooms |
|---|---|---|
| NYC Reads / MAP RIT growth | Targets decoding barriers that block fluency and comprehension. | Student practices words, sentences, and connected text with feedback. |
| Deep comprehension of rich texts | Decoding intervention accelerates access to HMH and grade-level texts. | RGR practice connects back to the lesson text, vocabulary, and success criteria. |
| Success criteria use | Each RGR session names the decoding skill and what mastery looks like. | Student can identify the word-reading pattern being practiced. |
| MTSS intervention system | Tier 3 is triggered by Tier 2 non-response and monitored with comparable decoding data. | Six-week Tier 2 evidence, attendance, access, and fidelity are reviewed before intensifying. |
